Golden Harvest Organics LLC provides this useful list for companion planting. Many of these will not thrive in Calgary’s unique growing conditions (Zone 3, drought, hail, extreme cold, chinooks)

Companion plants suggested by others

• Plant Butterfly Blue scabiosa daisy in front of Leucanthemum ‘Becky’, (2003 Perennial Plant Association’s 2003 Perennial Plant of the Year) and add Royal Candles speedwell for a great combination of white, blue and blue-lavender.
• Anemone sylvestris Windflower and hostas
• Chives under apple tree or with roses wikipedia
• Geraniums with Roses
• Lavandula angustifolia Lavender, L. dentata, L. stoechas: lettuce, brassicas, onions, tomatoes, oregano, thyme, marjoram, sage, rosemary, lemon balm, squash, wikipedia
• Roses with pansies, Lavandula angustifolia lavender, Pelargonium spp geraniums, catmint, miniature carnations
• ligularia, hosta, heucheras, lamium, ajuga, lungworts, hepatica, goatsbeard, brunnera, columbines, etc..
• Spring ephemerals that bloom then disappear by early summer like Sanguinaria canadensis Bloodroot , wood anemone, mertensia lungwort, Dodecatheon shooting star¹ with ferns or hostas that come up later.
